Medical disclaimer
Read this before you use anything on this site to make a decision about your health.
This is not medical advice
I am not a doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, or licensed ADHD coach. I hold no clinical credential of any kind.
What I write here is productivity strategy, informed by having ADHD myself and by testing a lot of tools. It is general information published for a general audience. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan, and not a substitute for talking to a qualified professional who knows your situation.
Nothing on this site creates a doctor-patient or therapist-client relationship. I can't and won't advise you personally on your health, and if you email me asking whether you have ADHD, I'll tell you to see a clinician.
On diagnosis
If you recognize yourself in something I've written, that's not a diagnosis. ADHD symptoms overlap heavily with anxiety, depression, trauma responses, sleep disorders, thyroid conditions, and ordinary exhaustion. Self-diagnosis based on a blog post, mine or anyone's, is not a reliable path to understanding what's actually happening with you.
Get assessed by a professional. It's slower and more expensive and more annoying, and it's still the right call.
On medication
I don't give medication advice. Not dosing, not timing, not whether to start, not whether to stop, and not what to take. Those decisions belong to you and your prescriber.
If I mention medication anywhere on this site, it's in the context of how it interacts with a productivity system, and it's descriptive rather than prescriptive. Never stop or change a prescribed medication based on something you read here.
What works for me may not work for you
ADHD presents differently in different people. What helps me with task initiation may do nothing for you, or may make things worse. Co-occurring conditions change the picture. So does your job, your living situation, your support system, and whether you're currently treated.
I try to say "this worked for me" instead of "this works," because the second one isn't a claim I can honestly make.
Where to get real help
For clinical information and support:
- CHADD - Children and Adults with ADHD. Non-profit, evidence-based, US-focused.
- ADDitude - Health-professional-reviewed articles and directories.
- NIMH ADHD page - US National Institute of Mental Health.
- CDC ADHD - US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- ADHD UK - UK-based support and resources.
To find a clinician, start with your primary care doctor, your insurance provider's directory, or a national ADHD organization's referral list.
If you're in crisis
If you're having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out to someone now rather than reading another article.
ADHD carries real risk of co-occurring depression and burnout. If things are heavy right now, that's worth taking to a professional, not a productivity app.
Accuracy and liability
I try hard to be accurate and I cite primary sources. I can't guarantee that everything here is current or correct for your situation. Tools change, research advances, and I miss things.
Use of this site is at your own risk. I'm not liable for outcomes resulting from decisions you make based on what you read here.
